The Hutchinson Monarchs had just two hits after the first inning as the Great Bend Bat Cats rallied for the second-straight night to defeat the Monarchs.
Leading 2-0 after one inning, the Monarchs saw Great Bend score six unanswered runs in a 6-2 setback on Friday at Hobart-Detter Field.
The Monarchs had just five total hits with three coming in the first inning. Single by Brayden Whitchurch and Colton Cowser set up a two-run single by Taylor Barber to give Hutch a 2-0 lead after one inning.
After that, though, all the Monarchs had in terms of hits was a second-inning Connor Craig single and an eighth-inning Craig double.
Great Bend scored 3 of its first 4 runs with two out. Daunte Freeman's two-run single in the third gave the Bat Cats a 4-2 lead.
Mikel Howell (2-1) took the loss, going five innings. with seven hits and four runs allowed. He struck out give. Dawson Dreher went two innings and allowed two runs. Dawson Linder worked the final two innings.
Whitchurch extended his hitting streak to 11 games with his first-innign single. Craig was 2 for 3 with a double to lead Hutch offensively.
Now 10-6, the Monarchs play host to the Wichita Sluggers for their annual Cancer Awareness Night at 7 p.m. on Saturday at Hobart-Detter Field.
